Bronze Iris and Granite Headstone
What you are looking at is a bronze Iris, recessed into a carved opening in a classical granite headstone.
To create this Iris, an original was first hand forged in steel. Hand forging means forming the hot metal with a hammer and anvil.
Once the Iris and background forms were shaped, the steel was assembled and sent off to a foundry. The foundry made molds and reproduced the steel parts in cast statuary bronze.
The finished bronze will have a saddle brown/grey finish that will turn green with time.
